Why convert image formats?

Different formats are better suited to different uses. JPEG is ideal for photographs, PNG supports transparency and sharp edges, WebP offers excellent web compression, and GIF is used for simple animations.

Converting lets you match the image to its destination without needing image-editing software installed.

Image format FAQ

Will converting change the image dimensions?: No. This tool only changes the file format and, for JPEG/WebP, the quality setting.
Can I convert an image to the same format?: Yes. You can re-encode a JPEG at a different quality level or convert PNG to PNG with no visual change.
Will transparency be preserved?: Transparency is preserved when converting to PNG or WebP. Converting a transparent image to JPEG will replace transparent areas with the default background color.
